Types of Geo Grids and Their Applications in Road Construction

Biaxial Geo Grid: equal tensile strength in machine and cross-machine directions. Used for sub-base reinforcement over soft sub-grade where load comes from multiple directions (typical road traffic). Reduces sub-base thickness or extends pavement life.
Uniaxial Geo Grid: very high strength in one direction. Used in reinforced earth retaining walls and reinforced steep slopes, where reinforcement is needed perpendicular to the wall face.
Triaxial Geo Grid: ribs in three directions, providing isotropic reinforcement. Used in pavements where modern wide-tyre heavy vehicles distribute load in complex patterns.
Multilayer Geo Grid: high-strength uniaxial used at the base of high embankments to prevent rotational failure and reduce settlement.
Application checklist: confirm primary function (reinforcement, stabilisation, basal support), direction of load and reinforcement, aggregate size for interlock (typical 20 to 75 mm angular crushed stone), tensile strength at relevant strain (typically 2 to 5 percent).
