Installation Guide for W Beam Crash Barrier Systems
By Hitesh Lunnia · Director · 1 min read
1. Setting out: mark post locations as per drawing (typically every 2 metres on standard highway, 1 metre on bridges and sharp curves). Confirm offset from carriageway edge (typically 250 to 750 mm depending on project).
2. Post installation: drive Z or C section posts to design embedment using a hydraulic post driver. For rocky strata, drilled and grouted installation is acceptable. Verify vertical alignment and top-of-post level along the line.
3. Rail mounting: bolt W Beam rails to posts through blocking pieces. Overlap rails by at least 300 mm in the direction of traffic flow so the leading edge presents a smooth face. Torque bolts as per specification.
4. Terminal installation: install end terminals (fish-tail, buried-in, or energy-absorbing type as specified). Untreated rail ends are dangerous and will fail inspection.
5. Inspection: verify post plumb, rail level, splice direction, bolt torque, zinc coating integrity, and continuity with bridge railings or transition sections.
