How Geo Grids Improve Pavement Performance
Aggregate confinement: angular sub-base aggregate locks into the open ribs of the Geo Grid, preventing lateral spread under load. The composite layer behaves stiffer than the aggregate alone, distributing wheel load over a wider footprint.
Tensile membrane: under heavy load, the Geo Grid develops tensile force that supports vertical load like a flat suspended sheet. This is especially valuable over soft sub-grades where the natural soil cannot resist deformation.
Strain reduction: by limiting lateral movement of the aggregate, Geo Grids reduce strain at the bottom of the asphalt and at the top of the sub-grade — the two failure planes most responsible for rutting and fatigue cracking.
Cost impact: a properly designed Geo Grid lets you reduce sub-base thickness by 30 to 50 percent for equivalent pavement life, or extend pavement life 1.5 to 3 times at the same sub-base thickness. Either way, the Geo Grid cost is repaid many times over.
Auroguard supplies design support and Geo Grid quotations matched to your sub-grade CBR and pavement life requirement.
