Cost Savings with Geo Grid Soil Reinforcement

By Hitesh Lunnia · Director · 1 min read

The case for Geo Grids on Indian road projects is built on three cost levers: reduced aggregate quantity, faster construction, and longer service life.

Reduced aggregate: by stiffening the sub-base layer, Geo Grids let designers cut sub-base thickness 30 to 50 percent. On a typical NH project, this can mean tens of thousands of cubic metres of crushed stone saved per kilometre — a direct material and freight cost reduction.

Faster construction: thinner sub-base means fewer compaction passes, less aggregate placement time, and faster overall earthwork. Reinforced working platforms over soft soil let heavy equipment access sites that would otherwise need expensive de-watering or replacement.

Longer service life: Geo Grids extend the design life of the pavement by 50 to 200 percent depending on traffic and sub-grade. This delays expensive overlay or reconstruction.

Embankment cost savings: basal Geo Grids let engineers build higher embankments on softer foundations without staged construction delays, reducing project schedule.

Retaining wall cost savings: Reinforced Earth walls using Uniaxial Geo Grids are 30 to 50 percent cheaper than RCC retaining walls at heights above 6 metres.

Auroguard supplies Geo Grids for all these applications with quotations broken out per cubic metre of saved aggregate or per square metre of wall face.
